Sittnings
Kalmar Nation hosts five traditional sittnings each year with festive meals organized by our Sexmästari. These sittnings have different dress codes to follow, which are included in the event description for each sittning. After each sittning, there's also an after-party where we open up the bar and arrange dance floor for the ones who want to dance!
If you are interested in attending a sittning, the best way to get more information is through our Facebook or swing by the office during opening hours and have the Kuratel tell you more!
The Sittning for Dummies is the first sittning of the semester and it is specifically planned for new students and members who do not know what a sittning is. We will guide you through the Swedish tradition of sittning: a fun time is ahead!
The Novischfest is organized at the beginning of each semester, both in the fall and in the spring, and is for the nation's new members to experience the student life and Kalmar Nation through a three-course menu with song, choir, and other performances.
The Song Book Sing-through is held in the middle of the autumn term. The goal of the sittning is to try to get through all the songs in our songbook in one evening! To reach this goal, a five-course menu is served.
The Christmas Party is in early December and offers a Christmas buffet with three servings, as well as Christmas drinks, Christmas carols and everything that belongs to Christmas!
The Spring Party is usually in the end of the spring term and celebrates the spring through a pre-drink in our beautiful garden, followed by three seasonal dishes.
Workers’ Parties are held twice per semester to thank our dedicated workers and foremen. These sittnings are FREE but are only available to those who have worked at least 1 time before the event!

Fancy something… fancier?
Every year, we host one of our two extravagant formal balls.
Storaste Kroppkakan is our premier ball hosted every other March (for example, 2019, 2021, and so on…) at the beautiful AF Castle. We spare no expense in making our ball the best in Lund! The dress code is as formal as it gets: ballgowns and tuxedos.
We serve a delicious three course meal complete with drinks. The signature dish is always the same: giant balls of kroppkakor, a traditional meat-filled potato ball bathed in butter and lingon jam. During the ball we have a contest to see who can eat the most of these carb-heavy kroppkakor!
Storaste Kroppkakan has its own webpage with up-to-date information on the next ball. Click here to learn more!
Minstaste Kroppkakan is our smaller, cozier ball held in our very own Kalmar Nation basement. This event is scheduled for any March in which we don’t have our larger ball (2020, 2022, and so on...). But just because it’s smaller doesn’t mean it’s any less fancy or fun!
Like Storaste Kroppkakan, Minstaste Kroppkakan also features kroppkakor as the main dish. There will also be a precourse, dessert, and a full drinks package. During Minstaste we have smaller, but no less competitive kroppkaka eating contest!
